Job Description
In this role, you’ll remove damaged panels, repair or replace body parts, and refit components to restore the vehicle’s appearance and structural integrity. Panel Beaters use hand tools, welding equipment, and hydraulic machines. Accuracy, craftsmanship, and safety awareness are crucial in this trade. You’ll also work closely with spray painters and mechanics.
Responsibilities
- Assess vehicle damage and determine repair procedures
- Remove, repair, or replace panels and parts
- Weld, file, and grind surfaces for a smooth finish
- Use jigs and alignment machines for frame adjustments
- Prepare repaired areas for repainting
Requirements
- Apprenticeship or certificate in autobody repair
- Manual dexterity and eye for detail
- Ability to use welding and panel beating tools
- Knowledge of vehicle structures and materials
Wages
Average hourly wage: $25 to $40 NZD
