Job Description
As a Floriculturist, you will design, grow, and maintain a variety of flowering plants for retail, commercial, or aesthetic purposes. Your responsibilities include planning planting schedules, ensuring proper irrigation, managing pests, and ensuring the healthy growth of plants. You may also be involved in breeding new species and improving flower varieties. The work environment may vary from nurseries to commercial farms or research labs, requiring both indoor and outdoor work.
Responsibilities
- Plan and manage plant production schedules
- Cultivate flowers from seeds, cuttings, and transplants
- Monitor plant health and manage pest control measures
- Maintain plant nurseries, greenhouses, and outdoor gardens
- Research new plant varieties and cultivation techniques
- Advise clients on floral arrangements and plant care
Requirements
- Degree in Horticulture, Floriculture, or a related field
- Experience in plant breeding, pest management, and irrigation
- Strong attention to detail and creativity
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments
Wages
Average hourly wage: $18 to $30 NZD
Annual salary: $40,000 to $55,000 NZD
