Job Description
As a Heavy Truck Driver, you will operate large commercial vehicles to deliver goods locally, regionally, or across provinces. This role involves long hours on the road, strict adherence to safety and transportation regulations, and excellent time management skills. You will also inspect your vehicle before and after trips to ensure it remains in safe working order. The ability to handle heavy loads, navigate challenging routes, and maintain clear logs is crucial.
Responsibilities
- Operate and drive heavy trucks to transport goods and materials
- Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections
- Ensure cargo is secure and comply with load limits
- Plan delivery routes and schedules efficiently
- Keep detailed records of cargo, hours of service, distance traveled
- Follow safety procedures and traffic laws
- Report vehicle issues and accidents promptly
Requirements
- Valid Class 1 or AZ driver's license (as per province)
- Clean driving record and ability to pass medical exams
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy items
- Basic mechanical knowledge is an asset
- Experience with long-haul or cross-border driving preferred
Wages
Average hourly wage: $25 to $38 NZD
Long-haul drivers may earn $60,000 to $90,000 CAD annually, depending on distance and company
